Sietse-Jan has been selected by the Vriendenkrans/Het Debuut competition to give a series of recitals in a dozen of the Netherlands' biggest concert halls. The final recital will take place in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and will be broadcast live on Radio4, on May 9th, 2011. In addition to that he won a scholarship and a recording session.

Sietse-Jan won 4th prize at the 2009 Rostropovich Competition. After two weeks of preliminary rounds, he emerged as one of four finalists out of 65 cellists who came to compete in Paris. In the finals, he performed the Tchaikovsky Rococo Variations at Salle Pleyel, with the Orchestre de Paris.

June 16, Sietse-Jan graduated with the highest distinction "Premier prix a l'unanimité avec félicitations du Jury" from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris. In July, Sietse-Jan was selected to become beneficiary of the Fondation Groupe Banque Populaire, from which he will receive a stipend for the 3 coming years. The money will be used to deepen knowledge and experience of music by studies, masterclasses, festivals, competitions and concerts.
This summer Sietse-Jan spent 9 weeks at the Aspen Music festival, playing symphonic concerts and recitals while studying with Richard Aaron, Eric Kim, Andrew Shulman and William Grubb. After that, he spent ten days at the Giverny Chamber Music Festival to play 7 chamber music concerts.

Once more, Trio Demian (Nozomi Matsumoto, Mi-Sa Yang and Sietse-Jan Weijenberg) was finalist of an international chambermusic competition. On sunday, april 26th, they won the 2nd prize of the Charles Hennen competition. Listen to a radio4 (Dutch classical radio) here, with an emission on 'young talent'. You can hear Trio Demain playing the first trio in d minor by Schumann about 3/4's into the emission.
Duo Weijenberg/Lee (cello/piano) integrated foundation Inspiration(s), which has as goal to make classical music accessible to everybody. The foundation organises concerts in unusual venues like schools, prisons, factories, etc. Last tuesday, Weijenberg and Lee had the honour to share a promotional concert for the foundation with Ivry Gitlis, honorary president.News - 29.03.2009
Trio Demian (Nozomi Matsumoto, Mi-Sa Yang and Sietse-Jan Weijenberg) won 1st prize of the pianotrio branch of the Maria Canals international competition. You can find some pictures of the competition here. Later on, in the tv section of the website you'll be able to watch the video recording of the final round.
The trio will be preparing another competition by the end of April, more information will follow.
